Mauritian society is highly multi-ethnic, with a
population of descendants from the Indian subcontinent,
Africa, France, Great Britain and even China. The
majority of Mauritian practice Hinduism, Christianity
and Islam. Mauritius is a unique testament of people
living successfully together, in a world where there are
so few examples of success at this level.
GISED has recently appointed two new International
Advisory Board members in Mauritius and is fully
committed to working with people of all different
backgrounds in
the society. One of GISED's first projects is in
partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Mauritius in
the preservation of the heritage of one of the oldest
places of worship in Mahebourg, Mauritius, which is an
important cultural symbol as well as a place of family
and community today. Our monetary contribution will
ensure that this magnificent structure will be preserved
for use for many years to come.
“You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first and
then heaven, and that heaven was copied after
Mauritius”. (Mark Twain in Following the Equator)
